Breath for your life #1
Incase you did not know.. I'm happy to share that breathing is vital for our survival as it is the only way we can send oxygen inside our body. We can live for months without consuming food and days without water, however we can only survive a few minutes without breathing. We start our life with an inhale, then we breathe about half a billion breaths during our life and then we finish our life with an exhale.
Pranayama is a part of Yoga system that teaches you the art of extending your breath in many different ways. Prana means life-force and ayama means extension or continuance.
Different types of Pranayama techniques have different benefits. Here are some examples : Provides deep relaxation to the body and mind, strengthens the nervous system and respiratory system, improves concentration, relieves stress , depression and hypertension.
1. Inhale in deeply through your nostrils. Feel the diaphragm move down, allowing the lungs to expand and forcing the abdomen out; then feel your chest expand with your collar bones rising last
2. Exhale out quickly through your nostrils. Feel your chest deflating, and abdomen becoming smaller. This process of exhaling should be much faster than the process of inhaling -- almost like a quick contraction or deflation.
3. Repeat the process. Continue doing this for 5 minutes.
4. With practice, speed up your breathing. But if this is your first time you should always start slowly to avoid hyperventilating, but with more experience, it will be possible to turn this into a rapid breathing technique.
